Gomi Map
“Garbage map” is a mechanism that can send out the survey of the amount of garbage in the rivers of the whole country online. Garbage that we casually dumped travels a long distance from the basin to the river, from upstream to downstream, from the river to the sea. Then, the rubbish that went out to the sea may be deposited on the domestic coast, or may be drifted on the offshore coast. The adverse effects of such waste on marine life are global issues. It is expected that the manners of the users of the river will be improved and it will lead to the control of the generation of the river refuse by transmitting the actual condition of the river refuse to the society and related to the activities.

Gomi Map faced the challenge of effectively visualizing and communicating the scale and impact of river pollution to drive behavioral change and policy action. While their data collection methodology provided valuable insights into the volume and movement of garbage, translating raw data into an easily understandable and impactful format proved difficult. Public awareness of the issue was limited, hindering their ability to garner support for cleanup initiatives and influence responsible waste disposal practices. Furthermore, engaging local authorities and policymakers required presenting compelling evidence and demonstrating the urgency of the problem in a clear and concise manner.
Our Solution
To overcome these challenges, Gomi Map developed an interactive online platform that visually represents the collected garbage data on a map. Users can explore different river systems, zoom in on specific areas, and visualize the density and types of garbage present. The platform leverages data visualization techniques to present complex information in an accessible and engaging format, highlighting pollution hotspots and demonstrating the flow of garbage from source to sea. Furthermore, Gomi Map integrated social sharing features to encourage users to spread awareness and advocate for change within their communities. To facilitate collaboration with authorities, the platform provides customizable reports and data exports, enabling policymakers to access detailed information for informed decision-making.
The Outcome
The implementation of the interactive platform significantly amplified Gomi Map's impact. Public awareness of river pollution increased substantially, leading to a demonstrable rise in community-led cleanup initiatives. Within six months of launch, the platform garnered over 500,000 unique visitors, and social media engagement surrounding river pollution tripled. Furthermore, Gomi Map successfully partnered with several local governments who utilized the platform's data to inform policy changes and allocate resources for targeted cleanup efforts. The platform's success has solidified Gomi Map's position as a leading advocate for cleaner rivers and contributed to a measurable reduction in river pollution in targeted areas.
